Physical activity is an important part of keeping well, both physically and mentally. Our main goal for the rehabilitation patients at Seven Oaks General Hospital is to get stronger so that when they return home, their daily lives can remain as unchanged as possible. Simple things like walking upstairs, carrying groceries, and other daily chores can be difficult to manage after surgery or an injury. Time and physical activity are the cornerstones to making sure this is possible. Rehab staff at SOGH provide rehabilitation care and expertise, but patients require more than the amount of time the staff can offer.
One of the initiatives funded via our virtual World Whiskey Tour event was a fleet of stationary bed bicycles, or ergometers, that allows patients the opportunity for additional exercise and rehabilitation above and beyond what is currently available from our staff. Not only will this help patients get stronger and support their mental health while in hospital, but it may also help them get out of hospital faster.
This program is very new and exciting and we are proud to be one of the few rehabilitation programs in Canada to offer it. Thank you to our generous donors for their continued support.
