We are proud to say that your donation changes lives today.

From the purchase of life-saving equipment to leading the charge in finding strategies to prevent and manage chronic illness, ground-breaking, life-changing health care innovation is happening every day, because of you.

At Seven Oaks General Hospital

Through donor support and initiatives like the Access to Care campaign, Gifts of Gratitude, and our annual giving campaigns, we are able to fund innovative programs at Seven Oaks General Hospital that are transforming the health of our community, as well as purchase life-saving medical equipment to sustain and grow essential programs and services that restore health and prevent illness.

Better efficiency and shorter wait times.

Seven Oaks General Hospital focuses on more efficient, patient-centred services aimed at combating the excessive wait times plaguing the Canadian healthcare system – services like a minor treatment stream, clearer admission protocols, better discharge planning throughout the Hospital, and utilizing nurse practitioners and physician assistants in Urgent Care.

Better diagnosing, treatment, and follow-up for a condition that slips through the cracks.

Seven Oaks General Hospital is also leading health agencies in Winnipeg’s north west in collaborating to improve access to proactive treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD) – an often undiagnosed, life-threatening lung disease that interferes with normal breathing, and is not fully reversible. The COPD Care Pathway Project, funded with a one-year project grant from the Manitoba Patient Access Network, is hoping to reduce “acute exacerbations” by improving COPD management in the community and by following up with patients who are hospitalized after they’ve been discharged. The Hospital refers COPD patients to the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at the Wellness Institute, where the integrated relationship between the Hospital and the Wellness Institute means patients’ doctors are able to monitor progress and make adjustments as needed, to achieve the best results possible.

More timely patient discharges, with better at-home follow-up.

Seven Oaks General Hospital created the Discharge Planning Initiative to remove internal barriers and inefficiencies that prevented timely patient discharge. Thanks to additional resources provided by your support, we were able to work with home care and long-term care agencies to smooth the transition of care, which meant we were able to reduce wait times to meet national benchmarks.

Access to Care – a state-of-the-art addition.

Most recently, the Foundation has looked to the community to support the Access to Care Project – a state-of-the-art medical clinic inside the Hospital for doctors who will see patients from the community, treat them in hospital if necessary, and work with the Hospital and the Wellness Institute to manage and prevent chronic illness. The $7.8 million addition to the front of the Hospital includes a bright, welcoming atrium with access to the new clinic, a gathering space for patients and visitors, a new Help Centre, a new pharmacy and gift shop, and a new food court.

At the Wellness Institute

In 1996, Seven Oaks General Hospital opened the Wellness Institute – one of the first medical fitness centres in the country. The Wellness Institute offers a full range of lifestyle medicine services that are evidence-based, medically integrated, and population health-oriented, empowering people of all wellness and ability levels to introduce positive changes to their lives. Within 10 years of opening its doors, the Wellness Institute was recognized as one of the top medical fitness facilities in North America.

Breaking ground on an exciting new chapter.

Our latest exciting project is the Wellness Institute Clinic, which will properly house the Wellness Institute’s physiotherapy, athletic therapy, massage, mental health counselling, and weight loss and nutrition services – all integral lifestyle medicine services that are proven to reduce hospitalization and morbidity.

At the Chronic Disease Innovation Centre

World-leading researchers in chronic disease, epidemiology, and health economics based at the CDIC are receiving global recognition for their original and applied research. Data gathered at the CDIC directly improves patient care and quality of life through innovative research like the analysis of population health records and big data, and unique research opportunities at the Wellness Institute. This research also informs physician practice in the community, and supports better health policy and decision making by governments. In addition, the technologies developed at the CDIC aid in the early identification and prevention of disease and disability.

A state-of-the-art facility to support this groundbreaking research.

Thanks to donor support, Seven Oaks General Hospital Foundation is three-quarters of the way to our goal of raising $1.2 million for a new next-generation space for the CDIC on the main level of the Hospital, as well as furnishings and equipment for the facility. The Foundation has directed over $300,000 from annual gala dinners to the campaign and we continue to work to bring major sponsors on board for this project.
